Nobody home
So I don't know if there was something in the air at work today or what, but I got a bunch of unusually dense customers today. This one guy asked me for his bread in a slow mumble, which I amazingly understood after the second time. Then he pointed to what meat he wanted and very quietly said ham. I started putting the ham on and he says no and says turkey. I ask if he wants a turkey ham and he says yes. I start putting the turkey on and he says no, ham. So I grab the ham yet again and he says no. At this point I'm getting kind of frustruated so I call a coworker up to finish helping him. After the guy leaves I ask my coworker if he knew what he was asking for. (I had at first assumed he was deaf, but after his indecision I had no idea what was up.) He then told me he thought that the guy had a stroke or something, but then told me he always orders the same thing, turkey. This same guy, who could barely even order, then drove away from the store which kind of freaks me out a bit considering I don't feel like getting run over by someone who is mentally distracted. There were a few others which were just an overabundance of stupidity, but then I had a moment of my own. This guy tells me his bread, meat, and cheese, and I just stare blankly back at him and say, I'm sorry, what did you just say? It was like I heard him, but I didn't. I think a thought just pushed it's way into my head as he was ordering and interrupted. Yeah, so maybe it's something in the air today.
