Blue October
On Sunday we went to First Ave to see Blue October and were one of the first people to show up. We ended up still being one of the first about 40 mins later so we kinda felt like dorks, very frozen dorks. However we did catch a glimpse of Justin outside freezing his keister for a minute to take a picture with a fan and I really regretted not bringing a camera at that moment. Anyway after over an hour and a half of waiting in line and no longer being able to feel either my toes or fingers we were finally able to go inside to warm up. Although it really wasn't much warmer in there. We made a mad dash to the front-not really-though I would've if I thought I had to. That was one advantage to being very early is that you're one of the first in so you have a better shot at the front. We were kind of disappointed that we were very near the right speaker, but I slowly kept edging over until we were nearly front and center. They had Adult Swim on a big screen in front of us, but it was subtitled and hard to read at an angle so I had to stop looking every so often. It helped to pass the time, though, because it was still an hour till the first band, the Damnwells, came on. It was my first time at First Ave, though, it definately wasn't my first concert. It was pretty spacious in there and I liked the layout-although the Myth was better. Anyway, yeah, so I had plenty of time to look around. After the Damnwells came on the place had filled up a bit more so it was a little warmer in there. I kept my jacket on nonetheless. I thought that the Damnwells did a pretty damn good job. I hadn't heard of them before, but I liked their melodies and the lyrics were pretty good too. After their set they brought out the cartoons again. And then finally came the moment I had been waiting for...Blue October came out. I was pretty excited to see them and glad that it was a smaller venue-it seems more personal than seeing someone at the Target Center-kind of like you're just seeing one of your favorite local bands. I wish I had known more songs, though. I only recognized three. Everyone else was singing along to almost all of them and I felt kinda dumb being in the front row and not knowing the words. I danced to every one of them, though. I liked all their songs that they played-although the real test is if I still like them recorded. There was one that I hadn't known I believe "18th floor balcony" may have been the name that really stood out to me from the ones I didn't know. It was really cool being that close to them and a couple times I think Justin looked at me. He seems kind of crazy, but in a good way. It's kind of weird but I liked everytime he rolled his eyes back or put his hands in his mouth. This was definately one of the coolest shows I've even been to and definately the most laid back. I hate getting jabbed in the ribs or kicked in the head by crowdsurfers at other shows or having other people's sweat on you, but this show wasn't like that. It was pretty refreshing. It was the fun, mellow concert experience I've always wanted to have and it's so hard to get these days because everyone wants to get violent at shows. Even at Wookie Foot shows where they are so mellow and laid back themselves. Anyway, long story short, it was a great show. I even had a dream about it that night.
